　　初出茅庐

　　Liu Bei visited the thatched cottage three times and finally succeeded in inviting Zhuge Liang to be his military adviser. Yet his sworn brothers， Guan Yu and Zhang Fei， did not take Zhuge seriously. Before long， Cao Cao dispatched an army of 100，000 to attack Liu Bei's headquarters at Xinye. Cao's troops were at the command of General Xiahou Chun. When Liu Bei turned to Zhuge Liang for advice， Zhuge said： “Ihave to borrow your majesty's sword of authority in that I am fafraid that Guan Yu and Zhang Fei will not listen to me.” Liu lost no time in lending his sword of authority to Zhuge who then started to dispatch Liu's army for the defence.

　　Zhuge ordered Guan Yu to Lück and wait at Mount Yushan with 1，000 troops. Guan was not to attack the enemy but rather let them pass. He would charge at the enemy as soon as he saw fire break out in the enemy procession. Zhang Fei was ordered to Lürk and wait in the valley with another 1，000 troops. Zhang was to attack the town of Bowang as soon as he saw fire break out in the enemy procession. Guan Ping， adopted son of Guan Yu and General Liu Feng were ordered to each guide 500 troops to wait behind the slope of Bowang. They would set fire to the enemy procession as soon as the enemy arrived at the slope. Zhuge recalled Zhao Yun from Fancheng to be the vanguard of Liu's army. But Zhao was ordered not to defeat the advancing enemy but rather pretend to be defeated. Liu Bei was given 1，000 troops as the back up force.

　　Guan Yu was so curious that he asked： “We all go out to fight the battle. But what will you do?” Zhuge Liang answered smiling， “I will sit and wait here in town.” Zhang Fei burst into larghter and said： “We all go out to risk our lives while you enjoy your time carefree inside the town!” Zhuge said： “I have the sword of authority. Those who disobey my orders will be executed.” Guan and Zhang had nothing more to say， but they walked away sneeringly.

　　Since the generals carried out Zhuge Liang's orders to the letter， the enemy was routed Zhuge's first military advice truned out to be smart and farsighted. Guan Yu， Zhang Fei and other generals in the Liu camp soon came to respect the new military adviser.

　　诸葛亮吊孝

　　This is a story from Three Kingdoms. Zhou Yu， chief commander of Wu， Was talented and proficient in strategies and tactics but was narrow-minded and intolerant of others. He discussed with Zhuge Liang plans to conquer Cao Cao while simultaneously pondering how to murder Zhuge Liang. Zhou Yu had been wounded by a poisonous arrow when he was attacking Nanjun. Zhou's wound burst when he learned that Zhuge Liang had already taken over Nanjun， Jingzhou and Xiangyang. Zhou Yu， with a healing wound， racked his brains for ways to capture Jingzhou. His strategies， however， were all seen through by Zhuge Liang who even sent him a mocking message. Zhou Yu was vexed again. “Since You(the Heaven) made me， Zhou Yu， why did You make Zhuge Liang too?” Zhou Yu grudgingly asked before he took his last breath.

　　Learning of Zhou Yu's demise， Zhuge Liang decided to go to pay respects. Fearing that Zhuge Liang might be murdered， Liu Bei send Zhao Yun with 500warriors to protect him. Before Zhou Yu's coffin， Zhuge Liang personally offered libation， kneeled on the ground， and read his eulogy. Tears of grief gushed forth from Zhuge Liang. All the generals from Wu were moved. When Lu Su saw Zhuge Liang was in such grievance， he said to himself， “Zhou Liang was narrow-minded and he brought on his own death.”

　　东吴大都督周瑜，精通兵法，才智超群，只是肚量狭小，不能容人。他和诸葛亮共商破曹大计，可又想加害诸葛亮。周瑜攻打南郡时，曾身中毒箭。当诸葛亮趁乱用计先取南郡、荆州、襄阳后，周瑜一气之下箭伤复发。病中的周瑜仍想智取荆州，均被诸葛亮识破。周瑜一气再气，在“既生瑜，何生亮”的怨恨声中死去。

　　诸葛亮得知周瑜的死讯，决定前去吊唁。刘备怕诸葛亮被害，派赵云带五百军士保护。在周瑜柩前，诸葛亮亲自奠酒，跪在地上读祭文，泪如泉涌，悲痛不已，众将均被感动。鲁萧见诸葛亮如此悲痛，自言自语地说：“周瑜肚量狭小，自取灭亡。”

　　曹操献刀

　　While the Han court was in chaos Dong Zhuo marched his 200，000 battlewise Xiliang troops into the capital of Lüoyang. He forces Liu Bian to quit the throne and made Liu Xie the Emperor Xian and himself the prime minister. As he rode roughshod over the emperor， manipulated power for personal ends， and had acted extremely cruelly， all ministers and generals wanted to get rid of him.

　　Cao Cao， a wise and resourceful army officer， had long wanted to kill Dong Zhuo. One day， he came to see Dong Zhuo with a borrowed blade. The latter was sitting in his bedroom， his brave step-son Lü Bu standing by his side. Inquiring why he had been late， Cao Cao said， “My horse was slow.” Dong Zhuo， now it's your time to die.“ But fearful of resistance from the old but still strong Dong Zhuo， Cao Cao waited for the right moment. As Dong Zhuo was a very large man， a while of sitting tired him and he lay down facing inward. Taking the chance Cao Cao unsheathed the knife. It so happened that Dong saw his move in a mirror. He looked back and asked Cao Cao what he was doing. Just then Lü Bu returned with a horse. The quick-witted Cao Cao made up a story， ”I chanced to secure a very unusual blade the knife to Dong Zhuo. Sure enough， the blade was extremely sharp， and about twenty some centimeters long. Delighted， Dong Zhuo told Cao Cao to have a look at the chosen horse. Outside， Cao Cao pleaded for a test ride. He then leaped onto the horse and sped away. “He must have come to murder me，” said Dong Zhuo to Lü Bu. “I agree，” the latter chorused. They sent soldiers to give chase， but by then， Cao Cao had fled out of the eastern gate.

　　统帅二十万西凉大军的刺史董卓，乘朝野之乱进军洛阳，废少帝刘辩，立刘协为献帝，自封为相国。他欺主弄权，残暴凶狠;朝中正直的大臣们都想除掉他。

　　校尉曹操，足智多谋并早有杀董卓之心。一日，曹操借王司徒宝刀一口，藏刀来到相府。他走到小阁，见董卓坐在床上，义子吕布侍立于侧。董卓问曹操为何来迟，曹操说：“ 马走不快，所以迟了。”董卓听后，命吕布选一匹西凉好马送给曹操，吕布答应着出去了。曹操心想，老贼该死，欲刺他，又怕董卓力大，没敢妄动，只好站在一旁等待机会。董卓身体肥胖，不能久坐，不一会，即侧身而卧。曹操见他躺下，急抽刀欲刺，董卓在穿衣镜内看见了曹操的动作，转身急问：“你要干什么?”这时吕布也牵马回来。曹操急中生智说：“我得一口宝刀，欲献恩相。”董卓接刀一看，长有盈尺，锋利无比，果然是一口宝刀。董卓引曹操出阁看马，曹操谢道：“愿借马一试。”然后快马加鞭往东南疾去。吕布对董卓说：“曹操有行刺之举。 ”董卓说：“我也怀疑。”于是派人去追。此时曹操已飞马奔出东门，逃得无影无踪了。
