Adam and Constance were very religious.
亚当和康斯坦斯都是天主教徒。
Both had been raised in Catholic families.
都是在天主教家庭里长大的。
Except for her uncle Chandler, who was agnostic, all their relatives were devout Catholics.
除了姑父钱德勒这一个不可知论者,其余所有家庭成员都是虔诚的天主教徒。
Adam's oldest brother was, in fact, a priest.
事实上,亚当的哥哥曾是一个牧师。
Adam, as a youth, had been an altar boy and had prayed to God to become a priest.
当亚当还小的时候,曾是一个圣坛助手,一直向上帝祈祷能够成为一个神父。
Instead, God made him a fireman.

Constance had seriously thought about becoming a nun, but that was before she met Adam.

Her heart fluttered at her first sight of Adam.

He was taking pictures with kids at a charity event.

When Adam and Constance got around to opening their gifts a few days later, Constance opened an envelope from her uncle Chandler.

Chandler In it was $100 cash.

But, the cash was inside a Jewish card for Happy Hanukkah!

I know this is Jewish, but it really is a beautiful card, don't you think? Love, and Best Wishes."

Constance did not send her uncle a thank you note, nor did she ever talk to him again.Constance

She was unable to think about her wedding again without thinking about that card.

【 解析 】
此句中," who was agnostic"是一句插入语,插入语是插在句子中的一个词,短语或从句,通常被逗号、破折号或句子的其他部分隔开,它与句子的其他部分之间没有语法上的关系。因此,有的语法学家将其归为独立成分。
插入语在句中通常是对一句话的一些附加解释,说明或总结;有时表示说话者的态度和看法;有时起强调的作用;有时是为了引起对方的注意;还可以起转移话题或说明事由的作用;也可以承上启下,使句子与前面的语句衔接的更紧密一些。
