　　The Yardman

　　(园丁)

　　The yardman comes every two weeks.

　　园丁每两周来一次。

　　He drives a gray pickup truck.

　　他开着一辆灰色的小货车。

　　The truck is a Ford.

　　卡车是福特牌的。

　　It is about 15 years old, but it runs well.

　　虽然是15年的老车了，但它运行的依然很好。

　　It doesn’t burn oil, and it gets decent gas mileage.

　　它并不烧油，有着体面的油耗。

　　The yardman’s name is Byron.

　　园丁名叫拜伦。

　　In the back of his truck are a lawn mower, a leaf blower, a rake, and a shovel.

　　在他的卡车后面有一台割草机，一个吹叶机，一把耙子和一把铲子。

　　Byron uses the leaf blower to blow leaves and dirt from the back of the building out to the front of the building.

　　拜伦用吹叶机把树叶和泥土从建筑物后面吹到前面。

　　Then he rakes up the leaves into a bag.

　　然后把树叶收集起来放进袋子里。

　　He blows the dirt out into the street.

　　他把街上的泥土吹走。

　　He cuts the lawn with his lawn mower.

　　他用割草机割草。

　　He trims the hedge.

　　他修剪树篱。

　　He uses the leaf blower to blow the dirt off each Welcome mat that lies in front of each apartment door.

　　他用吹叶机吹掉每户公寓门前垫子上的灰尘。

　　Then he puts all the leaves, the grass trimmings, and the hedge clippings into a wheelbarrow.

　　然后他把所有的叶子，修剪下的草，和篱笆放到手推车里。

　　He pushes the wheelbarrow to the back of the building, where he uses his big shovel to empty the wheelbarrow contents into the big dumpster.

　　他推着手推车到大楼的后面，在那里他用他的大铁铲把手推车里的东西铲到大垃圾桶里。

　　It takes Byron about two hours to do this work.

　　拜伦处理这些工作大概需要两小时。

　　When he is done, he goes half a block up the street to the house on the corner.

　　当他完成工作后，他走到半街区到拐角处的房子那里。

　　There he does the same work again.

　　在那里又开始做同样的工作。

　　重点知识讲解

　　本则故事中出现了例如comes,drives, uses, cuts等在动词原形的基础上加了 字母 ‘s’的动词。这些形式我们称之为动词的“三单”(第三人称单数)形式。

　　为什么这些动词要用“三单”形式呢，就是因为句子使用了第三人称单数的主语， 例如He, Tom, My father等，一句话总结就是“非我非你非复数”的主语称之为 “三单”主语。关于动词的“三单”形式其实还有其他情况，例如goes, does, studies, fixes等

　　动词的“三单”形式总结如下：

　　1.一般情况下，直接加-s

　　2.以s/x/sh/ch/o结尾，加-es

　　3.以“辅音字母+y”结尾，变y为i, 再加-es

　　4.特殊变，例如have-has
