初中英语升学模拟试卷有答案(2)
C
One afte rnoon I toured an art museum while waiting for my husband to finish a business meeting. I was looking forward to a quiet view of the art works.A young couple ahead of me chatted nonstop between themselves. I watched them a moment and decided the wife was doing all the talk. I admired the husband’s patience for her continuous talk. Distracted(心烦意乱的) by their noise, I moved on.I met with them several times as I moved through the different rooms of art. Each time I heard herconstant words, I moved away quickly.
I was standing at the counter(收银台) of the museum gift shop when the couple came near to the exit. Before they left, the man reached into his pocket and pulled out a white object. He extended it into a long stick and then carefully went into the coatroom to get his wife’s jacket.
“He’s a brave man.” The clerk at the counter said, “Most of us would give up if we were blinded at such a young age. But he made a promise that his life wouldn't change. So, as before, he and his wife come in whenever there’s a new art show.”
“But what dose he get out of the art?” I asked, “He can’t see.”
“Can’t see? You're wrong. He sees a lot. More than you or I do.” The clerk said, “His wife describes each painting so he can see it in his head.”
I learned something about patience, courage and love that day. I saw the patience of a young wife describing paintings to a person without sight and the courage of a husband who would not allow blindness to change his life. And I saw the love shared by two people as I watched this couple walk away hand in hand.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know at once that they were sure to be there. They serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help find out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be : your classmate, neighbor, teacher, long-lost friend or even a real stranger. But you know that every moment they will affect your life in some serious way.
Sometimes things happen to you. At the time they may seem terrible, painful and unfair. But later you realize that without getting over those difficulties you would have never realized your further ability and strength. Everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance or with good or bad luck.

Enjoy every day, even every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people you have never talked to before, and really listen. You should set your sights high, hold your head up.
You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

Dear Bill,
I’m glad to receive your letter. Thank you for your caring for the w eather and my health. Haze happens from time to time in our life now and it is harmful to our health and the society. Read on to f ind more.
It causes traffic accidents because people can’t see clearly in such weather. What’s more, many people get sick. They get a bad cold and cough a lot, especially children an d the old.
From my point of view, something must be done to solve the problem. First and foremost, it couldn’t be better if factories reduce pollution which is the main cause of haze. Besides, we’re supposed to drive cars less. Instead, we can choose to walk or take a bus. Last but not the least, needless to say, trees are the lung of our earth. As a result, the more we plant, the greener it will be.
In general, as an old saying goes, “All hands make the work light.” Therefore, if everyone can work together to solve the problem, I hold the strong belief that we can surely enjoy a cleaner and b etter future.
