高中英语情态动词语法应用

　　英语一些动词通常与情态动词can连用，如tolerate, put up with, afford。有些动词则必须与can not /never连用，以表达某个特殊的含义。

　　1. When hearing the news, she couldn't help weeping.听到这个消息，她禁不住抽泣起来。

　　I cannot (help) but admire his courage, strength and competence. 我不得不赞赏他的勇气、力量和能力。

　　2. You can never tell what life has in store for you. 你永远不知道人生会给你带来些什么。

　　3. I can't stand that man any longer. 我再也受不了那家伙了。

　　I can't have you breaking down in health. 我不能让你搞垮身体。

　　下面的例句形式上是否定的，但表达的是肯定的意思：

　　4. I cannot agree more. 我十二分赞成。

　　You can never find a better place to relax yourself that a seaside beach. 海滩是放松心情最好的去处。

　　5. I cannot thank you too much. = I cannot thank you enough. 不胜感谢!

　　You can never be too careful when crossing a busy street. = You can never be careful enough when crossing a busy street. 街上川流不息。过大街时要十分小心。

　　动词say构成的习惯表达：

　　1. There is no saying what may happen /when the war will end. 谁也说不清会发生什么事 /战争何时结束。

　　2. There is a saying that goes, "Behind every successful man stands a silent woman." = There is a saying that behind every successful man stands a silent woman. 俗话说，每个成功的男人背后都有一个默默奉献的女人。

　　3. You said it /You can say that again. We offer good services. 你算说对了。我们服务优良。

　　4. The people of the country is said to have a say in the affairs of their state under the new government. 据说在新政府治下，这个国家的人民在国家事务中有发言权。(have no say in sth. 无发言权)

　　5. Even grown-ups cannot lift it, to say nothing of children. 大人尚且举不起来，何况小孩子。(to say nothing of = let alone / = still /much /even less)

　　6. What do /would you say to that painting? 你觉得那幅画怎样?

　　= what do you think of ...

　　= how do you like /find ...
