The lord of rings was written by John Tolkien in 1955. He made up a mystical world called Middle Earth. And the start of the story, is not a person, but an object, a ring. The ring allows one to control a host of other rings handed down to the different peoples of Middle Earth: three rings belong to the immortal elves; seven to the dwarfs; and nine rings to mortal humans. The ring that rules all the others, forged using the fires of Mount Doom by the evil Wizard Sauron, gives its holder so much power that it corrupts all those who seek to wear it, even the purest. Of course, there are some peoples that are more pure than others. Humans generally seem incapable of wearing it without being corrupted by its influence. But there exists a diminutive people, the Hobbits, who do seem at least capable of carrying it without being polluted too much. So the fate had come to a Hobbit---- Frodo, who had to carry this Ring deep into the shadows of Mordor and unmake it in the place precisely it was made. If this Ring exists, the world may fall in the Power of the Dark Lord. So Frodo, with his gardener Sam, started an amazing journey towards the hope.

But the Hobbits is a kind of people who loves peace and quiet. They don’t care much about affairs in the world, nor do they like to take part in adventures. But Frodo and Sam have no chance to choose their destiny. The future of the Middle Earth depends on this little creature. In the story of this trilogy Frodo is the most impressive character not because of his heroic movement, but his true personality. As a reflection of our human being, he has been afraid, he has been tempered by the power of the ring, and he has doubt about the possibility of the success. Just because he’s so similar to us, the journey becomes more dangerous and difficult, which makes it easier for this character to move us.

I can still remember the narration of the beginning of the story. In a small Hobbits town called Shire, which is just like the unforgettable dream land, a Hobbit boy, Frodo, shiny like the bright sun shine, reading beneath the tree. His clear blue eyes represent the purest soul in the world, which lets me doubt about the truth that there’s no angle in the real world. He’s just an insignificant nobody, he never thinks about the ambitious dream of fighting for the justice and freedom. But he loved his uncle, his friends and his hometown Shire. He packed up and went on the journey for adventure just because he wanted to save Shire, the place he never wants to leave. The first time the story moves me is when the two hobbits stepped out of the wheat field of Shire. Sam stopped and said:” one step further makes the furthest trip away from home”。 Until that time had I realized what a great sacrifice they made.

When the chance came to him that he can leave the ring with the king of the Elves, he made his decision. When he saw the outstanding representatives of different peoples quarreled with each other about how to deal with the ring, he stepped out and said:” I will take it! I will take it! I will take the ring to Mordor!” I was shocked and surprised by the great power that burst out from this little creature.

The other theme of this book is the friendship that runs through the story. In the novel, after the wizard Gandalf and human Boromir died in succession on the way to the Mount Doom, Frodo crumbled down. He began to hate the ring, and cursed it that why it had chosen him to be the carrier. He picked himself up quickly and decided not to bring anyone else in this dangerous journey, he wanted to shoulder this great responsibility by himself. So he got the only little boat and set out. At that time, his friend Sam found him and jumped into the river though he couldn’t swim. Sam embraced Frodo closely and said “I made a promise:Don’t you leave him. And I don’t mean to, I don’t mean to.”

The whole story gets to its most exciting part when Frodo and Sam finally made their way to the Mount Doom. The ring’s ex-holder Gollum took the chance to guide Frodo and Sam to the Mount Doom and wanted to get the ring back. So Gollum sown discord between Frodo and Sam, which made Frodo drive away Sam mistakenly. But Sam didn’t leave his friend, instead, he followed them and protected Frodo when he got into danger. When Frodo got so tired that he could not stand up and go on the last few steps on the mount, Sam told him “I cannot take it, but I can take you." Then he carried Frodo on his back although he was as tired as Frodo. Looking at every difficult step Sam took, tears fill my eyes. Sam made the promise that he would accompany Frodo until the end of the trip, and finally he made it. The light of the fire on the Mount Doom shone on Sam’s face, I knew he would not give up from the fortitude of his expression.

But Frodo hesitated, when they finally got to the top of the Mount Doom and he had the chance to destroy the ring forever just by loosed his hand and let the ring fall into the fire of the Mount Doom. It was not surprise for me, because nobody could resistant the temptation of the ring. After the long journey with the ring, it had been one part of his body, and corrupted his soul day by day. Sam shouted to him: Frodo, just drop it, please! But Frodo refused and turned back with the ring put on his finger. But thanks to Gullom, who was thought of dead before, came out and fought for the ring. And finally, Gullom fell down into the fire with the ring. In my opinion, the ring in the story represents the money and the power in the real world which was chased by many people even the kindest.

After I checked the background information of the writer John Tolkien, I understand the novel better. He joined the army in the World War 2 and suffered a lot in the war. So I have sufficient reasons to believe that the ring, the Mount Doom and all the evil characters in the novel was related to his horrible experience of the war. And the kindness, the bravery and the sacrificing spirit of different peoples on the Middle Earth represent the beautiful world he dreamed of.

I’d like to sum up this with one sentence: read it and you will love it.

There is a legend about a bird, which sings just once in its life more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it leaves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then singing among the savage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And dying, it rises above its own agony to out carol the lack and the nightingale, One superlative song existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in his heaven smiles. For the best is only brought at the cost of great pain… or so says the legend.

Frist ,I was attracted by the title of the book ,and the thorn bird’s legend .then I began reading the book .I was totally enthralled by Meggie all life .the girl nearly used all her life to struggle the god and pursuit .her love maybe is holy to Ralph ,but for her mother and her children is unequal .in her old age ,she realized what is true love and how to change her daughter’s fate which she had ever went thought and fill with indifferent and panic.

So my topic is about “Learn how to pursue, how to love” .I don’t support that today our love like the thorn bird. because love should be respectable ,lofty ,and admired.

There is something happened around our life which should be concered .in servers days ago, I read a news about a university student killed herself because she broke up with her boy friend .I really very angery with her selfishness and weakness .she never considered her parents when they saw her body and cried sadly and hopeness ,her friends future life would be full of regret and frightened . as a student ,we must realize that we not only should be loved but also should love the others.

Kindship and friendship also is important in our life. parents aways is our props nomatter what happent in ours .friends turn up when we felt in panic and drive we out. So when we pursuit the love, please don’t hurt and ingnorance our parents and friends .most important, don’t lost our conscience and happyness when we hope to be loved.

In my oppinion ,love consist four basic factors. Frist, express our love. In our life, many children didn’t ever said :mama,I love you so much.”or we unrequited love someone,we felt shy and self-abased ,so we lost each other. Secondly, refuse and accept love.in the stage we growing up,we should learn to apprecite and choose our turely need.

Thirdly, we should learn how to solve the love promblen.for example ,when your families and your lover has a struggle, who will you stand up and how to confor them. I think understanding is important.fourth, the capbility to keep love .when you get old ,did your kindship, friendship and love also fresh.if your Parents and sister still welcome you and serve you with enthusiasm.if your friends still keep touch with you and share your life like former.if you lover and you still living happily.

We always hope to be love, but we rearlly don’t think of how to pursue, how to love. At last ,I hope: everone can live a better life.

“Animals deserve our kindness, sympathy and understanding,” that is what Anna Sewell-the author of Black Beauty-wanted to convince her readers。 Thanks to Sewell, I now think about the animal-human relationship from both the human and the animal’s point of view。

The inspiration for Anna Sewell’s novel was drawn from her own relationship with horses。 Anna Sewell was born on March 20th, 1820 in Norfolk, England and was crippled while still very young。 Due to her disability, she relied on horse-drawn carriages and grew to love horses as a result。 She also became appalled by the careless and cruel treatment horses often received from humans and determined to write a book。。 In the second year of work on the book, she was told that she had only eighteen months to live, but she persevered in order “to induce kindness, sympathy and an understanding [of the ] treatment of horses。” Five years later, she was still working on Black Beauty, her only book。 Unfortunately, Sewell died a few months after publication and never learned of the book’s huge success。 Black Beauty formed an impassioned plea for animal rights at a time when such a notion had been dismissed as ridiculous。

The novel portrayed the real condition of working horses living in Britain during the Victorian Era。 In that time period, the wealthy thought that their horses were treated well because they never stepped into the stable。 In order to call people’s attention to horses’ hard life, Sewell tells the story through the first-person narrative voice of a horse。 This innovative personification of an animal made the book a real success。 Readers heard the stories straight from the horse’s mouth, literally, as an animal spoke of extremes of joy and suffering。 People were shocked by the truth exposed by the novel and changed their attitudes towards animals。

Sewell formed the novel with three kinds of characters: Black Beauty, Ginger and other farm animals。 Through their different experiences, I saw similarly painful lives led by the animals。 This method made the earnest appeal for animal rights become more and more persuasive。

As a domestic animal, Black Beauty was continuously sold from one family to another。 Over the years Beauty enjoyed good masters but also endured mean ones。 Sometimes, he was cared for and at other times tortured。 In the end, everything turns out all right in a story that is so tender and yet meaningful。 His story was so vivid that caught the readers’ heart。 The novel brought people laughter and tears and also enlightened them to understand animals at the same time。

Animals cannot speak so understanding is significant to them。 Once, for example, Beauty was drawing the carriage to a wooden bridge。 The bridge was flooded out in the river and John, the groom, was not aware that it was cracked。 But the quickly realized that something was wrong because of Beauty’s abnormal behavior。 Momentarily, a man shouted to them, “Stop! Stop!…The bridge is broken in the middle。 If you come across, you’ll fall in the river!” Beauty had saved John。 However, if John had not tried to understand what Beauty wanted to tell him, there would definitely have been an accident。 I learnt from the story that understanding animals is not only essential to them but is also beneficial to us ourselves。

After reading Jane Eyre, I think Jane Eyre is a great woman. Through a serious of troublesome situations between Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester, the author set up a great female image before readers: insisting on maintaining an independent personality, pursuing individual freedom, advocating equality of life and being confident before hard conditions.

Her early life at Gateshead was terrible, everyone seems harsh on her. She survives her parents at an early age, and has to live with her ugly aunt and three cousins. She suffers large quantities of bad conditions that others may not experience. However, she does not give up in despair, she does not destroy herself mentally, instead, Jane Eyre is filled with unlimited confidence, and she is a strong spirit, a victory over the inner personality.

She is then forced to send to Lowood Institution, unfortunately, life there turns out to be terrible, too. She is still under physical and spiritual punishment. Mr Brocklehurst insults her to be a liar before all pupils and teachers. But there she meets one sincere friend Helen Burns and one sincere teacher Miss Temple. They always treat her well. She then behaves very well and get many people’s recognition. Six years later, she makes a teacher there.

After two years teaching life at Lowood Institution, she plans to leave there to pursuit her own life and happiness. She was in a position of governess through a letter from Thornfield. Her life was totally changed after that. There she met a lovely girl, Adele and her master, Mr. Rochester. She has a special feeling about them. With the development of the plots, Jane Eyre succeed a large sum of money from his uncle, and through all bitter things which was caused by Rochester’s wife in Thornfield, Jane Eyre and Mr.Rockester finally get married and lead an ideal life.

I think Jane Eyre is an autobiography of Charlotte Bronte. Although the story is made up, the heroine and people's life and the environment in the story were taken from the details of real people around and experience. Charlotte Bronte described a young girl’s struggling life to express her inner thought: everyone is equal regardless of his or her gender. The uniqueness of Jane Eyre is not only lies in its truth and the strong artistic appeal, but also lies in the particular female image. The love story of Rochester and Jane Eyre vividly shows the fire of passion and sincere heart strongly reveals their notions of love. She looks down upon the upper class who only use their power to do what they intend to do and laughs at their stupid to show her independent character and beauty dream.

In the actual fact, she wasn’t pretty, even herself knows that, and of course, the ordinary appearance make others have bad opinion on her, even her own aunt dislike her. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down upon and tease, but she was totally much more than “the plain and ugly tutor”. And as a little governess she said to her master: “Do you think my poor, obscure, plain, and little has led me to be a soulless and heartless person? You have done a wrong thing!”Underneath these lines sees the equality of human in Jane Eyre’s mind. She has affection towards her master, Mr. Rochester, but when she finds that he has already had a wife, she leaves him and her love place without consideration. Although God did not grant her a beauty and wealth person, instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thoughtful brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impressed us extremely much and make us feel the power inside her small body.

In my mind, a person’s beauty on the face can only make others feel that he or she is attractive or charming, if his or her mind isn’t the same noble as the appearance, beauty of this kind cannot last for a long time, because other people will one day find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a superficial one, it’s not sincere, they will not like the person any more. For a long time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as an everlasting beauty, just as Albert Einstein said: “A person must be held accountable for their biological survival or all of the meaning or purpose, from an objective point of view, I think it is ridiculous. Everyone can have a certain ideal, which determines the ideal and his efforts to determine the direction. In this sense, I never easy and the enjoyment of life as an end in itself, the ethical basis of this, I call it the ideal pigsty. I lit up the road, and continue to give me new courage to face up to the pleasure of the ideal life is good and the beautiful and true. If it were not for like-minded between the warm feelings, but focus on the objective world, the arts and sciences in the field of work will never reach the target, and then it seems to me that life would be empty. There are efforts to pursue the goal of the vulgar - property, vanity, luxury living, I think it is despicable.”

Now I get a better understanding of what real beauty is, as we are all human-beings, so we should distinguish whether a man is noble or vulgar.

Jane Eyre’s story makes me thinking about our future life and I learn much from her experiences, I know everyone will have a better tomorrow if one holds his beliefs, regardless of one’s status and the situation he is in.

Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre was published in 1847 under the androgynous pseudonym of “Currer Bell.” The publication was followed by widespread success. Utilizing two literary traditions, the Bildungsroman and the Gothic novel, Jane Eyre is a powerful narrative with profound themes concerning genders, family, passion, and identity. It is unambiguously one of the most celebrated novels in British literature.

Born in 1816, Charlotte Bronte was the third daughter of Patrick Bronte, an ambitious and intelligent clergyman. According to Newsman, all the Bronte children were unusually precocious and almost ferociously intelligent, and their informal and unorthodox educations under their father's tutelage nurtured these traits. Patrick Bronte shared his interests in literature with his children, toward whom he behaved as though they were his intellectual equals. The Bronte children read voraciously. Charlotte's imagination was especially fired by the poetry of Byron, whose brooding heroes served as the prototypes for characters in the Bronte's juvenile writings as well as for such figures as Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre (2)。 Bronte's formal education was limited and sporadic – ten months at the age of 8 at Cowan Bridge Clergy Daughters' School (the model for Lowood Institution in Jane Eyre), eighteen months from the age of 14 at Roe Head School of Miss Margaret Wooler (the model for Ms. Temple) (Nestor 3-4)。 According to Newman, Bronte then worked as a teacher at Roe Head for three years before going to work as a governess. Seeking an alternative way of earning money, Charlotte Bronte went to Brussels in 1842 to study French and German at the Pensionnat Heger, preparing herself to open a school at the parsonage. She seems to have fallen in love with her charismatic teacher, Constantin Heger. The experience seems on a probable source for a recurrent feature in Bronte's fiction: “relationships in which the inflammatory spark of intellectual energy ignites an erotic attraction between a woman and a more socially powerful man” (Newman 6)。 The Brontes' efforts to establish a school at the parsonage never got off the ground. Still seeking ways to make money, Charlotte published, with her sisters, the unsuccessful Poems by Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell. Her first effort to publish a novel, The Professor, was also unsuccessful. Jane Eyre, published in October 1847, however, was met with great enth

usiasm and became one of the best sellers. As “Currer Bell” Bronte pleted two more novels, Shirley and Villette. She married Reverend William Bell Nicholls in 1854 and died nine months later, at the age of thirty-nine in 1855 (Nestor 4-5)。

The story of Jane Eyre takes place in northern England in the early to mid-19th Century. (“Jane Eyre” 151) It starts as the ten-year-old Jane, a plain but unyielding child, is excluded by her Aunt Reed from the domestic circle around the hearth and bullied by her handsome but unpleasant cousins. Under the suggestion of Mr. Lloyd, an apothecary that sympathizes Jane, Mrs. Reed sends Jane to Lowood Institution operated by a hypocritical Evangelicalist, Mr. Brocklehurst, who chastises Jane in front of the class and calls her a liar. At Lowood, Jane befriends with Helen Burns, who helps the newly arrived Jane adjust to the austere environment; she is also taken under the wing of the superintendent, Miss Temple. One spring, many students catch typhus due to the harsh condition. Helen dies of consumption. At the end of her studies Jane is retained as a teacher. When Jane grows weary of her life at Lowood, she advertises for a position as governess and is engaged by Mrs. Fairfax, housekeeper at Thron

field, for a little girl, Adele Varens. After much waiting, Jane meets her employer, Edward Rochester, somber, moody, quick to change in his manner, and brusque in his speech. Mysterious happenings occur at Thronfield, including demonic laugh emanating from the third-story attic and a fire set in Rochester's bedroom one night. Rochester attributes all the oddities to Grace Poole, the seamstress. Meanwhile, Jane develops an attraction for Rochester. Rochester, however, often flirts with the idea of marrying Miss Ingram. An old acquaintance of Rochester's, Richard Mason, visits Thornfield and is severely injured from an attack apparently from Grace. Jane returns to Gateshead for a while to see the dying Mrs. Reed. When she returns to Thornfield, Rochester asks Jane to marry him. Jane accepts, but during the wedding, Mason and a solicitor interrupt the ceremony by revealing that Rochester is keeping his lunatic wife, Bertha Mason, in the attic in Thornfield. Despite Rochester's confession, J

ane leaves Thornfield. She arrives at the desolate crossroads of Whitcross and runs into the Rivers siblings, who tend her in Moor House. Jane happily accepts the offer of teaching at St. John's school.
